#2. Hydrates Skin
BB Cream contains moisturizer such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin, cucumber extract or aloe vera that hydrates your skin. You can see improved elasticity and glow in your skin.
Hyaluronic acid helps to retain water in the skin cells to moisturize your skin effectively.
#3. Anti-aging Properties
Most of the BB Creams contain Vitamin A, C, and E, that have antioxidant properties to reduce oxidative stress on the skin to get younger, flawless skin.
Oxidative stress happens when your skin has more free radicals than antioxidants that results in aging, and dullness of skin.
#4. UV Protection
If your job lets you have longer exposure under the skin, then harsh sun rays can damage your skin. You can BB creams with SPF and zinc-oxide properties that protect your skin from the UV rays to avoid the skin damage.

Disadvantages of BB Cream
#1. Allergic Reactions
Just like any other cosmetic product, BB cream also contains harmful chemicals like silicones, or alcohols that might react with your skin if you have a sensitive skin that may result in mild or severe allergic reaction on your skin.
However, you can find an organic alternative too.
#2. Acne treatment
You can easily conceal skin blemishes but BB cream is not a cure for your acnes. In fact, BB cream may clog your facial pores and cause irritation.
If your skin is highly prone to acne, you should avoid BB cream or use a very small amount of BB cream, or you may face new acne outbreak.
#3. Not a Complete Moisturizer
No doubt BB cream hydrates your skin due to its moisturizing properties but it’s not a complete moisturizer.
You can’t totally rely on BB cream to repair your damaged dry skin. BB cream can just conceal your skin flaws for sometime.
#4. Skin Color Matching
If you have a distinct skin color then your BB cream may not go well with your complexion, and when you apply a BB cream, the cream would stand out on your face. So your purpose of using BB cream may not be fulfilled.
#5. Less Effective Sunscreen
Your BB cream can protect your skin from little UV damage, but you can’t rely on BB cream the way you do with sunscreen.
Because you have to reapply sunscreen periodically in case of heavy sun exposure but you can put more BB cream to avoid sun damage.

How to Apply BB Cream
#1. How to Apply BB Cream Using Fingers
The easiest way to use BB cream is using your fingers. If you are a beginner, you will find it easy using your fingers to apply BB cream rather than troubling yourself with a brush or sponge.
Step 1: Measure the Correct Amount
The best way to measure the correct BB cream amount is by puting a dime size amount of BB cream on the back of your hand and apply it evenly. You would be able to understand how much cream you require on your face to avoid over use.
But if you have experience with foundation or concealer, then you can apply directly to your face skipping this step.
Step 2: Use The Dots Technique
You can use “Dots Technique” in two ways – 5 dots technique or 13 dots technique.
#1. Using 5 dots technique – Apply 5 small dots to your face including the forehead, nose, chin, and one-one on each cheek. Make sure the cream dots of the bb cream should be equal in amount in each of the spots on your face. It is important to remember to not smear the bb cream when applying the dots.
#2. Using 13 dots technique – Put a dime sized BB cream puddle on the back of your hand and apply dots as below –
- 3 dots on your forehead
- 6 dots on cheeks ( 3 on each cheek)
- 2 dots on your nose
- 2 dots on your chin
13 dots technique allows you to apply BB cream more evenly as compared to the 5 dots technique but you take care of the amount using as you can apply more cream. So, apply BB cream in tiny dots to avoid caky look.
Step 3: Patting the BB Cream
Start patting the cream with your middle and index fingers. Do it slowly in a circular motion.
Start in the middle of your skin area and move towards the edges of your face.
Use the patting technique by starting with your forehead, working your way down to the nose and chin. Lastly, finish the patting at your cheeks.
While patting on cheeks apply gently under the eye area. Don’t stroke under eye area as it may cause lines due to dragging of the skin.
Step 4 : Neck Area
Check if your face and neck have a similar skin tone or not. If there’s a difference and your neck skin seems dark, put 2 dots on the neck area and apply evenly by patting the cream.
Once the neck is covered, check the whole face if there’s any place on the skin that you left unknowingly, you can apply more cream to give an even look to your whole face.
#2. How to Apply BB Cream Using Brush
Applying BB cream with a brush is the most recommended way if you have dry skin. Because using your fingers may irritate your dry skin resulting in more dryness.
Another method is using a sponge (will discuss in the next section) but that can also make your skin more dry as sponge can absorb the water from your skin.
Step 1 : Select appropriate brush size
You may get confused with the brush size and density that would be appropriate to apply BB cream. We recommend you to use a medium sized brush that would let you evenly apply cream on the face.
Step 2 : Applying BB cream
First of all use the same dots technique to apply cream on your face and neck. Now use firm and even brush strokes to spread the bb cream evenly. Since brush are quite gentle on the skin, you can apply more pressure to apply in an effective way.
#3. How to Apply BB Cream Using Sponge
You can use sponge to apply BB cream if you have oily skin because a wet sponge will do better job as compared to patting cream with fingers or using a brush.
Step 1 : Damp Your Sponge
Damp your sponge using water or hydrating facial mist to blend in the bb cream. The facial mist will keep most of the bb cream on your face rather than on your sponge.
Plain water will also do the job if you don’t have face mist.
Step 2 : Apply BB Cream with the Sponge
Start spreading the bb cream onto your face using the sponge. Perform outward strokes with slight pressure starting from the center.
Be careful to use sponge on the skin under your eyes area. We would recommend you to use fingers in this sensitive area.
Try to drag minimal and spread the cream carefully under eyes.
